What to expect at EXECinsurtech 2018

EXECinsurtech puts the spotlight on the future of the insurance industry and especially the influence of technology startups in this space. It therefore focuses on the impact of technological change in areas like AI, IoT and Blockchain and how this change also reflects on the insurance industry. To take as much insights away as possible, this year’s program consists of mainly interactive approaches: e.g. in-depth discussion tables or masterclasses.

The 2018 agenda includes topics such as:

  • Failures and opportunities of co-operating: future strategies for startups and corporates
  • Usability, Riskiness and Insurability of Blockchains
  • Building products based on data mining/collection using IoT technology

Gil Arazi - Founder and Managing Partner of FinTLV Venture Capital - an Insurtech VC based in Israel. Gil has 20 Years of experience as a senior manager in the biggest insurance companies in Israel (VP at Migdal group, Senior VP at Phoenix, CIO al Clal, and CEO of Clalbit systems (Clal’s IT Company). An entrepreneur in the insurance tech startups ecosystem in Israel by locating technologies from all verticals and pivoting them into new use cases for the insurance business. FinTLV also holds an innovation platform in a cooperation with SOSA for many global insurance companies that are looking to foster their innovation activities.

Rachid El Khayari

Rachid studied computer science at the TU Darmstadt. During that time his interest in information security developed. He gained first experience as an intern at Deutsche Telekom in the quality assurance department and later in the Product Security department. Rachid wrote his Diploma thesis "over Internet Telephony and how to deal with" at Fraunhofer SIT and joined our research staff in January 2009. His current research areas are mobile security in general and smartphone security in particular.
Franziska Focken

After studying economics, Franziska Focken moved to Berlin, where she accompanied various companies during their development at Rocket Internet. Another accomplishment of her career was the construction of a digitalization center of the MDAX-listed company Klöckner & Co. Working in both areas, she understands the needs of corporates and the agile environment of StartUps. At OptioPay Franziska Focken unites these experiences and brings her passion for scalable software to the company as Vice President Strategic Partnerships.
Andreas Franke
Managing Director
As managing director Germany, Andreas Franke is responsible for the set-up and operational running of the market Germany. While he was working as a project manager in internal consulting at Zurich insurances, he gained precious working experience in Finance, Business Transformation and Operational Improvements in different countries. Andreas Franke has a degree in business administration from the University of Cologne.
Stefan M. Knoll

Dr. Stefan M. Knoll is a successful founder, entrepreneur, lawyer and German reserve officer. After the sale of his second company, SNT Deutschland AG, he launched the Deutsche Familienversicherung into the market. Frankfurt-based DFV Deutsche Familienversicherung AG is a direct insurance company and insurtech. It offers a wide-range of care and health insurances as well as property insurance products. With only 100 employees, it serves 500,000 customers. In 2017 – its 10th anniversary year – it was the aim to push forward the digital transition and to further strengthen its leading position as insurtech. Its robust business structure paves the way for this as well as its outstanding product portfolio which aims to be comprehensive, reasonable and cost- effective. Beyond this foundation, awards and highly innovative digital solutions keep setting new standards within the market. In 2018 the aim to be the first fully digital insurer and the only fully functional insurtech will be fulfilled.

Philip Knott is the CEO of the cologne based insurtech freeyou. Freeyou, founded in january 2018, is an subsidary of the DEVK Versicherung. Their mission is to build a data driven insurance with complete digital processes. Further more freeyou is trying to find ways to protect their customer against possible risks.
Ravi Kurani
Earlybird Venture Capital
Ravi Kurani joined Earlybird in 2016 and is currently a Principal at the Munich office. He focuses on investments in Fintech and Blockchain and has been a Bitcoin investor since 2013. He is currently working with Earlybird's portfolio companies Shapeshift, Instamotion, and Tradico. Prior to joining Earlybird, Ravi was a management consultant at The Boston Consulting Group, where he mainly worked in the financial services and private equity industry, and built an expertise in big data analysis. Before that, he gained practical experience, among others in consulting at Roland Berger, in Research & Development at Daimler AG, and as a research assistant for Thermodynamics at Braunschweig University of Technology. Ravi holds a B. Sharath Muddaiah holds a Master degree in Mobile & High Speed Telecommunication Networks. He began his career within Product Management at Samsung, before he joined Sony Ericsson and Sony Mobile on various Senior Global Sales & Marketing, Product Management and Portfolio Strategy roles which he has supported over the last 16 years. In his current position as Director of Business Development and IoT at G+D Mobile Security GmbH, he is responsible for all innovation projects and eco system partnerships in the areas of Mobile IoT & 5G. Sharath is responsible to direct first global rollouts of new products that securely manage the identities of the millions of “Things” over their lifetime.

Stephan Noller, 48 – Serial Entrepeneur from Cologne, Germany. Specialized in data-driven business models. Co-Founder of nugg.ad, Calliope, trackle and ubirch. Blockchain Enthusiast – ubirch offers a Blockchain for Things, trackle will be the first in-body Blockchain sensor on the market. Vice-President of german association for the digital industry bvdw, member of the advisory board for the german ministry of economics and energy.
Magdalena Ramada

Senior Economist, Research & Intellectual Capital
Magdalena is a Director at Willis Towers Watson’s Insurance Consulting and Technology and leads the firm’s insurance-focused R&D efforts around insurtech and blockchain technology. She joined the firm as a Senior Economist at Willis Towers Watson’s Research and Innovation Center in 2005. She has 20+ years of experience in R&D and international consulting and was Willis Towers Watson’s Head of Research and Analytical Services. Magda holds a M.Sc. in math. Finance and a PhD in Quantitative Economics and Finance. She currently focuses on strategic consulting for the Insurance Industry, especially around blockchain/distributed ledger technologies, emerging risks and markets and #insurtech.
Oliver Schoeller

Oliver (47) joined the Gothaer Group in 2009, where he entered the Group Board of Directors in 2010. After 7 years as Chief Operating Officer of the Group, he became CEO for the Groups health business in 2017. Before joining Gothaer Oliver was a Partner in strategy consulting for 12 years in New York, London, Johannesburg and Frankfurt. He is married and has three kids.
Stephen Voss

Stephen Voss is a Sales & Marketing expert with over 25 years of experience in the banking & insurance industries. He has held senior positions with Zurich, AIG, Hartford Life , the Halifax Bank of Scotland (now Lloyds TSB), and Deutsche Bank, where he gained a wealth of experience. Since Jan 2017 Stephen is co-founder, co-investor and CEO of the fully licenced listed NEODIGITAL VERSICHERUNG AG, a full stack digital insurance - to explore the possibilities of a fully process orientated digital insurance service. Until End of 2016 he was Profit Center Manager of Broker Personal Lines & Small Business for Zurich Group Germnay managing 300Mio+ in annual revenue. He also Held the position as CEO and speaker of the board for Baden Badener Versicherung AG, selling general insurance products to over 12.000 brokers in Germany. For AIG Stephen was in charge of the Executive Office in Germany with oversight over all projects and developments in the company. At Hartford Life Group, Stephen was instrumental in launching a new operation in Germany, overseeing all aspects of marketing, business development, and distribution channel relationship management. At Halifax Bank of Scotland - where he was responsible for Germany and Austria - he played a central role in developing and executing a marketing and distribution strategy while leading the investment marketing & development department. Prior to these positions, he was based in Luxembourg for Deutsche Bank’s fund operation DWS, leading the company’s marketing efforts for the Benelux region, specialised in serving HNWI as well as highly demanding institutional clients. Stephen started his career at Allianz and has worked 2 years for Fleming Asset Management. Stephen is of dual nationality British & German, married with 3 children Specialties: - Operations, Sales & Marketing - Digital Insurance Processing - German Broker market - High Net Worth Individuals - Institutional & corporate clients Expert knowledge in starting up new distribution units, products and markets.
